Win 7 does not recognize external hard drives...

#1 Post by tockki » Thu Nov 19, 2009 12:00 am

I have a T60P 15" with T7600...

I was wondering whether anyone out there have problems with the computer not recognizing the external hard drive.

I am using a Vantec enclosure which the USB port supplies the power. I also have a Megadisk enclosure which the USB port also supplies the power. Both of them worked with my T60 before when I had XP as an op sys.

When I plug them in the disk is spinning with the led lights on but there is no recognition by win7.

I tried to use the rescan via disk management but to no avail nothing.

I do get recognition when I am using an external powered hard drive and also with usb drives...

Anyone having the same problem with a solution?

I had this problem with an older thinkpad and found you need to plug in both machine ends of the pigtail because the device needs more power than a single usp port can provide. I don't have the problem on my SL500 though..

So this is a hardware issue? or a software issue?

I just don't understand if it works on XP why not win 7...

Been searching around but it seems some people are experiencing the same problem which is encouraging.
