Bluetooth mouse woes with T60 & Win7 RC1
I'm running under a non-administrator account. Every time I start the machine or resume from standby, I have to Fn+F5 and manually turn the bluetooth radio back on. A minor annoyance, for sure, but one that irritates me every time I use the machine. Anyone know a way around this? Is this a registry permissions problem? I.e. is TpFnF5.exe failing to set something in the registry because it's running under a limited user account?
Other than this glitch, bluetooth & the mouse (apple mighty mouse) seem to get along just fine.

Don't think it's a permission thing else you wouldn't be able to run it manually.
X60 - upgraded to a X61 2.5Ghz motherboard and 8GB RAM (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit) 64GB SSD

Of course it could be a permissions problem. Even though TPHKSVC.exe runs under the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account, when it spawns TpFnF5.exe, that runs under the account of the logged in user. I you don't believe me, get a copy of the SysInternals Process Explorer and check it out for your self.
There have been plenty of instances in the past of IBM/Lenovo utilities that didn't function properly under a limited user account...the fault usually having to do with permissions in the REGISTRY...not with file permissions. I assume that they've cleaned up their act by now, but who knows?
Anyway, this is a very annoying problem.

The thing I wanted solved here was the annoyance factor. The "supported operating system" that came with my machine was Vista Business. That whole OS is WAY more annoying than this little problem...at least that's been my Windows 7 experience so far: only about 1/5th as annoying as Vista.
Anyway, this problem has been resolved. Unfortunately, I threw a bunch of fixes at this and so I can't be completely sure which one solved the problem, but I *think* it was as simple as just installing the Thinkpad PowerManager for Windows 7: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70601
I had been operating with the Lenovo PM driver installed and just using the Win7 built-in power management stuff. Adding the above software seemed to do the trick.
But, in case that doesn't work for you, the other things I installed in my flailing were:
BIOS update v2.25: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-63024
(Of course, you should install this BIOS update ONLY if it's designed for your machine. Mine is a 2613-HNU.)
ThinkVantage Device Experience for Windows 7 (32-bit) and (64-bit): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-73962
Be careful with this "Device Experience" dsltttp10.exe install. It just dumps a bunch of files into C:\DRIVERS\WIN\LTT and leaves you with a batch file that won't actually install the stuff. Edit C:\DRIVERS\WIN\LTT\installds.bat so that:
cd "c:\swtools\apps\Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools"
..becomes:
rem cd "c:\swtools\apps\Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools"
cd "%~dp0"
You'll need to run installds.bat with administrative privileges in order for the install to succeed. The "Device Experience" appears to just populate the "Thinkpad" entry under Control Panel->Devices and Printers with a series of links and doesn't appear to actually install any new software. Pretty impressive (NOT) for a 62mb download.

PS: one more update: the Apple bluetooth Magic Mouse works very well with my Thinkpad and Windows 7 now that drivers are available. Touch-based scrolling and zooming are working just fine. See: http://uneasysilence.com/archive/2009/11/14588/
