T42 base plastics

#1 Post by mr.blitz » Fri Nov 20, 2009 9:15 am

Hello...

After much deliberation i have bought a T42 1.8ghz over a T43 1.86Ghz on the basis that the T43 gets too hot and i will be using my computer in hot clubs and bars where cold air is minimal. Thanks for those who helped with the decision making process.

I have just received my T42 and have noticed that at the very front of the upper platic casing, in the middle of the touchpad at the very front, there is a crack splitting the upper casing in half. I am thinking simply to buy a new upper casing for the T42 but can only find a T43 upper casing on ebay.

Will the upper base platics (the area around the keyboard and touchpad) from a T43 fit a T42?

If so i will buy immediately and fit.

Thanks in advance.

T43 palmrest will fit into T42 base, as long as both from the same version of LCD size.

Note, there are two version of T42 and T43 -- the 14" LCD and 15" LCD, and each one may have fingerprint censor and non-fingerprint.
Non fingerprint palmrest will fit on T42 that has fingerprint support, but not the other way, without some mod.

This is a really common problem on T4x's. They can be repaired quite easily with epoxy glue (Araldite) from the underside. If you're using it in clubs and the like, is it worth replacing it?

Also remember to carry the laptop by the sides not the front edge to reduce the laptop developing the graphics chip problem or else you'll be sending it to me to be reflowed! :D
