WWAN, warranty and me

#1 Post by ThinkRob » Sat Nov 28, 2009 6:38 pm

I recently added an Ericsson F3507g to my beloved X61s, and am pleased to say that it works quite well (near-flawless Linux support!) I taped pin 20, left the BIOS intact, and used the AUX antenna from the WLAN card. No more over-crowded coffee shop WiFi for me. :D

I'm interested in adding a real primary antenna (the sort that goes on the top-right of the screen), the secondary fan under the palmrest, and an internal AUX antenna for the WWAN (so that I can restore the WLAN's AUX), but I'm not sure how doing so will affect my warranty.

I have a four-year on-site warranty with accidental damage coverage. If I make the upgrades listed above (addition of FRUs 93P4543 and 42W3410), will I destroy my chances of getting warranty service? My previous experience with Apple was that they are quite willing to void your warranty just for opening the case of your machine, so I'm a bit cautious of doing anything too extreme lest Lenovo take a similar tack.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
