Vista SP2 loses hibernation option

#1 Post by Kyocera » Tue Nov 24, 2009 9:18 pm

For some reason I'm losing the option for hibernation :banghead: . Vista reported that there was an issue with the atheros card driver so i updated that. Power manager has the option to hibernate when lid is closed but it's not available in power options in control panel.

Does the following enable hibernation?

Code: Select all

powercfg -h on
Run this command in an elevated command prompt.

Thanks Mark, I found that a while back and it does restore the hibernation option but something seems to be kicking it out.

The following command may only work in Windows 7 but it's worth a try:

Code: Select all

powercfg -energy
The command analyzes the power settings on the PC and creates a report. The report may contain clues about what's disabling hibernation. But I forget whether this is a new command in Win 7 or if it is also present in Vista.

I'd be suspicious of the recent Atheros card driver update. You could try rolling back the driver to the previous version to see if the new driver is the cause of the problem.
