My t400s was delivered today

After just over a week of anticipation after my t400s shipped it arrived today and overall i'm very happy with what I see so far. I was a little surprised at how bare bones the packaging was--but I guess it's just because i've grown a little use to the fancy packaging companies like Apple or HP use. This is my first new Lenovo since my 380ED from over a decade go (which I still have and still runs with Windows 95).

Right from when I pulled it out of the box I could tell it was a very rugged machine and I was impressed at how light it was (about 3.8 lbs from what I hear) especially for it's size. I was able to open the lid without anchoring the base to the table, i'm not sure why but that is very important to me. Machines where you have to almost pry the lid open have always bothered me. But while the lid opened smoothly it was still very solid and I don't suspect the screen position will flop around due to a little airplane turbulence.

I'm a little surprised at how thin the plastic is on the palm rest. I can feel the roll cage and see that there is very little flex, but the plastic on the palm rest and above the keyboard near the on/off and media buttons seem almost paper thin and will flex until it comes in contact with the roll cage or inner chassis. I suppose that's not really a problem, just something I was a little surprised to see.

The screen was nice and bright, and I was impressed by the speakers especially at low to mid volume. While the max volume was fairly loud, some distortion could be heard especially along bass lines. The only problem I experienced was that scrolling did not work in certain programs like iTunes, but after a quick search on this forum i found the solution. Thanks Thinkpads.com!

Performance was incredible, it booted very quickly, and programs like MS Word, iTunes and web browsers open with virtually no load time at all. I'm still yet to install the majority of my productivity software so i'll see how the system handles a more stressful load later. I'm assuming most of the speed i'm noticing is from th 128g SSD my computer came installed with. This is the first SSD i've owned, and i am just blown away at it's speed, especially when installing and opening programs. Heat is almost non-existent on this machine as well. Even after nearly an hour of playing around with this computer it remains cool to the touch--even on the under side. The trackpad is one of the nicest i've ever used on a laptop. It is very responsive and accurate, no possessed jumpy cursors when using this baby.

Anyways, thanks to anyone who has read this far, i'll stop rambling on now. I'm really just playing around with my new toy while I set it up, and trying to find an excuse to type on this lovely keyboard All in all i'm very happy with my purchase and I recommend it to anyone looking for a business oriented computer.

Intel P9600 (2.53Ghz)
4gb RAM
128SSD
Windows 7 64b Professional

Congrats, i got my t400s today as well. This was a replacement since my previous one was defective, hopefully this one will be ok (crossing fingers).

Congrats on your new machine. Nice looking family there. How would you compare the display on the T400s to the MBP? I have a MBP and I would like to pick up a T400s.

Just had a small problem with updating drivers for the intel 4500HD ..

Turns out you need to uninstall the old driver first

There are also a new firmware for the Samsung SSD on lenovo.com but I am going to wait until more people had tried it.

I had a T61 - absolutely nothing wrong with it, I made the mistake of looking at the current T series at Lenovo. I went with the T500...more screen and it is my 24/7 workstation mixed with a little gaming on the side. I have an older T42 as a backup/kids computer... I've been through a number of Ts. I have only had one die, but it was a freebie (well used before) and not a T series.

So far no issues with my new t400s...I'm loving it (knock on wood).
I got rid of Windows already (which I had left for a couple of days for testing purposes),installed ubuntu and its running like a charm.
