X60 Startup & HDD problem

hello new to the site and my friend has a problem with his thinkpad x60


he is unable to start his computer we think its a hard drive problem i connected it up on my pc looked in the managment console and it shows up but says unallocated tryed to format it but unable to comes up i/o error tried different programs all with no joy :cry:

so he know wants me to get him a new hdd but he wants a bigger one what size will the think pad able to handle he has 100gb at moment (which is useless)but he would like 250 and above

what would be the ideal hdd for this laptop :?:

There is no capacity limit. Any 2.5" SATA drive for a laptop will work. I think the largest one these days is 640GB.
