Re: Windows 7 ULTIMATE Exchange
How long did it take? What was the process? The last email I got said they got my proof of purchase and they would send an email when it shipped and I haven't heard from them again in 3 weeks and they charged my account already. EZ Serve takes like 2 days at the most.ausmike wrote:I would FINALLY received the LENOVO Windows 7 Ultimate Dvds from Lenovo ....(most painful process to get these ...seems it came Via Singapore to Canada to me in US !!!! ) and its useless for me as its 64 bit..... and Not x86 ( 32 bit ) ....

Re: Windows 7 ULTIMATE Exchange
The process for me was MORE PAINFULL , as it took LENOVO 3 'goes' before I got the W7/500's shipped that worked and orcomplied to the ORDERED ITEMS; as I had orderd all CTO's = configured to order> ....since my order was for 3 seperate CTO's -1x W500 & 2 x W700's with SSDs raids and other add-on hardware With various returns and replacments, it got every crazy for ME to even track with, what and where the order status was for each item(s).....so getting upgrades was/has worst then tooth pull !!!
Here is the link that YOU MUST FILL OUT...
http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/windows7/
or
call 1800 96 - think (USA& CANADA)
Follow the pages and you will see different and various process for each 'type' of issue you might have . THERE IS ALSO A LINK to send am EMAIL ENQUIRY/QUESTIONS for your order
<<< note all the devil is in DETAILS>>>So more you ensure the detials are acccurate and correct the faster you get the Dvd. From that i know ,,,, this "windows 7 upgrade' is a major complicated process sicne LENOVO = has 'security issues with the MICROSOFT MASTER DISC ( pre release dvd of windows 7 that most PC manufactures get to load their systems with BEFORE retail release of MS product) Its been reported everyone that someone stole a DVD from lenovo and put that in Torrent downloads. Since most DVD of windows that lenovo use = DO NOT NEED WINDOWS VERIFICATIONS!!.......
So this time the LENOVO CUSTOMERS are suffering major pains for getting their FREE UPGRADES....< but then I have not know win7 as been any less painfull than Vista or XP upgrades from Lenovo/IBM either>
From what I can tell ,,,,the webinfo is vetted by Lenovo/IBM dist'n, in Singapore , then APPROVED info is passed to various regions (America's Distro = via MS Canada; Europe via MS Germany etc).
To my shock/unpleasent suprise there is no one you can call or speak to for any issues , errors problems .... seems to be a BIG BLACK HOLE created because of the above mentioned "security" issues or lack therere off !! >
Hope this helps ......

Re: Windows 7 ULTIMATE Exchange
I just got this reply message. It took them 6 days to answer my query, and this after over 3 weeks of waiting for the discs. I scrubbed my business email address so as not to post it all over the internet. The original email from me (their email form) is at the bottom. The response is at the top. I find it disconcerting that a human didn't sign the email.

I have not received the upgrade and I have not received any further notifications since my credit card was charged. I cannot use this computer until I have updated to Windows 7 Ultimate, from Vista Ultimate. I have sensitive software licenses that do not allow installs over and over.

Re: Windows 7 ULTIMATE Exchange
OK that was an incredible PITA!
DO NOT follow the directions if you want success.
First of all the second disc installed the toolbox which is a crappy piece of software that takes your thinkvantage program group away in the start menu. Nothing you do can get that back unless you want to manually create it.
Next I manually installed a bunch of drivers. The nVidea driver wouldn't installed in Windows update, and wasn't available in System Update. The Huey Pro wouldn't calibrate until it was installed, then...... I couldn't get the HUEY Pro sensor to show up. I uninstalled various drivers and such. and finally got the sensor working but it wouldn't register the lid being closed. Also initially closing the lid puts the computer to sleep. WARNING do not attempt to manually install the tablet software from Lenovo cause the service won't start and you end up in an endless loop of trying to reinstall the driver. After going back to an earlier windows, and lots of experimenting, I reinstalled from scratch and handled things quite differently. Long store short I solved all the issues, and here's what I did.
Custom install windows, format the drive, this is especially important if you use an SSD as Win 7 handles those in a particular way.
Installed System update from another drive (I didn't bother putting the companion disc in at all).
Installed HUEY Pro 1.1.7 from Lenovo. This is another piece of software that never showed up in System update.
Downloaded and deferred installation of all system updates. Installed the power management driver and hotkey features setup. Restarted
Ran Huey Pro and it WORKED!
Installed Power Manager, restarted and ran Huey Pro again, still worked.
went through each group of drivers, rinse repeat. Lastly installed the Ultranav Driver, restarted, tested, then the ultranav utility. All along the way testing Huey Pro. I calibrated the monitor at least 6 times.
Here are the updates in order. http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/qZ ... directlink
I didn't installed the toolbox thing or the access connections. AC worked on Vista 64 quite well but I'm not convinced I need it. I've had plenty of trouble with it in XP so I already have a bad feeling about it. Toolbox looks like it's trying to be iTunes, and I don't like iTunes. I'm not into eye candy either, unless it helps productivity. The toolbox might be OK for some people but it slowed me down.
Now I'm going to install Acronis TIH 2009 and hope it works with Windows 7 so I don't have to buy an upgrade. Next will be Office and a few games and the software I use for work.
I hope this helps someone. If you don't have the tablet or the Pantone sensor you may not have any of these issues. I have spent way too much time on this. Chances are it might have been easier to just update Vista but I wanted to do it clean. FYI there is no more hidden partition. I suppose that might be created if you install R&R (also not in System Update), but I'm going to stick with Acronis anyway.
Does anyone know if Huey Pro 1.5.x from the Pantone website will work with this system? After all the trouble I am concerned it won't know the lid is closed, etc.
