Wireless Adapter Keeps Shutting Down
Wireless Adapter Keeps Shutting Down
While I am connected to my home wireless network, the wireless adapter on my T60 shuts down without warning. This happens when I'm surfing web sites (e.g. Yahoo, Google, Best Buy, etc.)
The only way to get the wireless adapter working is to restart the PC. During the shutdown process, after the adapter has failed, I get error messages for:
actraywnd
acnliconwnd
connectionstray
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Wireless Adapter Keeps Shutting Down
99% chance that this is a power management/saving issue. IIRC, there are (3) places where this must be changed, in power manager itself, in device manager advanced properties for the WiFi adapter, and in access connections. Check out this thread. There's a tip for turning off "Enable automatic location switching." in access connections. Try that too.

Re: Wireless Adapter Keeps Shutting Down
I was having this issue on my T60p a while back. I tried the power settings in the hardware tab but it didn't fix it. Uninstalling Access Connections & letting Windows run the WiFi fixed the problem for me, though. Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've adjusted the power setting and we'll see how it works. I'll take a look at the thread on automatic location switching.
I am wondering if the latter is the culprit, since I connect to wireless networks at the office (no problems with the adapter shutting off there) and at home. I also use a Sprint wireless card during my commute (train, not driving
Re: Wireless Adapter Keeps Shutting Down
I have adjusted the power settings, but continue to see adapter shutting down.
This seems most often to occur after I have used my Sprint Wireless card on, disconnected the card and then try to connect to the home network via connections manager.
Could there be a conflict between Access Connections and Sprint's SmartView (the connection program for the wireless card)? I should add that I use SmartView to connect to the wireless account at work because Access Connections won't work there.
If there is a conflict, how do I remove Access Connections without messing everything else up?
Thanks.

Try and let Windows manage your connections, before you use Add/Remove.

Click on the Intel Wifi icon in the task bar, click on the Advanced Tab and then select Windows to manage the wireless device.

Re: Wireless Adapter Keeps Shutting Down
I'm having Intel manage the wireless connection, but it continues to shut down. I'm noting the problem particularly when I use battery power, though it may be happening when I'm plugged in as well. The wireless goes out at weird intervals and there does not seem to be anything in the power settings that would explain this.
I get connections tray errors when shutting down and don't know if that is part of the problem or not.
Any suggestions?
