Varying usb transfer speeds on identical t43s

#1 Post by bass1175 » Sun Nov 29, 2009 1:34 pm

I have two identical T43s, both have had their motherboards replaced under warranty. One machine transfers 1gb of data in 15 or so seconds while the other takes about 15 minutes. Thanks for any info.

I believe that the T4x systems have this fairly common problem with the USB port(s) getting "stuck" at USB 1.1 speeds. My understanding of this problem is that it may relate to either an electrically damaged input port (i.e., a static charge) or a loose interface chip; what's typically referred to as the Southbridge. Unless the systems are still under warranty, the best, and maybe the easiest, solution would be to use a PCMCIA-to-USB adapter card.

There's a "sticky" at the top of this T4x conference which may shed some light on this problem:
