#1 Post by canaminal » Mon Nov 30, 2009 12:49 am

does this 3com mini pci work in an A31? "3COM Mini PCI Card 56K 10/100 LAN Dell IBM Sony HP" 3CN3AC1556

Does any one have a sl6vb or sl6vc and fast fan they dont need ?

Welcome to the forum!

I doubt that a card from Dell will work...especially for the fact that LAN card in A31 is a daughter card, and not mini-PCI...

And I do have a spare (NIB) SL6VC and a fast fan...PM if interested...

Thanks for the welcome.

Ive read that a intell 2200bg will work and it seems to be a mini pci, whats the difference and will the 2200bg work?

Just bought 2Gb new ram for $60, so upgrades on the way.

3 COM that you're referring to is a wired LAN card which is not mini PCI on A3x machines.

Intel 2200BG is a wireless LAN card which is a mini PCI card on them.

You'll probably need a BIOS hack to get the 2200BG to work on A31/p.

When I install the 3Gb of ram will I need to do anything or will it just recognise it and go??

I read somewhere about xxxICE or such gell for heatsink is there a difference in them. and do I need to worry about that?

You can put in the 2 x 1GB (not 3GB) and the machine will automatically recognize it.
Unless the machine overheats, you should not have to worry about thermal paste, such as Arctic Silver 5 (one of, if not THE best).
