external display problems with latest video driver

#1 Post by laughingtonto » Mon Nov 30, 2009 1:41 pm

I upgraded both my X301 and T400s with the latest Intel video driver release and now I'm having weirdness with external digital monitors. It appears to use 8-bit (or less?) color and in one instance, the wrong resolution. Anyone else having problems with the latest video driver update delivered via Windows update on Windows 7?

I'd suggest to use the video driver comes from lenovo's web site.

Because ThinkPad team is one of very few vendors that actually tweak the drivers before releasing to users.
So the generic Win7 driver from Windows Update might not fit the OS best.
Try the lenovo driver and see if it helps the issue you are having now.

I would agree. Over the years, I've gotten burned by downloading 'optional' hardware drivers from Microsoft Update. I no longer use them. I go to the manufacurer's website for the particular device and download theirs.
