z61t CPU upgrade

#1 Post by tadc » Mon Nov 30, 2009 7:42 pm

Greetings all - n00b here.

I have a z61t with a Celeron M 420 proc. I recently picked up a t5750 SLA4D Core2 Duo from Ebay, found the Hardware Guide, flashed the BIOS and was about to drop it in before I realized that this particular CPU isn't on the OEM list. It supports the same clock speed (2 Ghz) and bus speed (667), but this chip has 2MB cache vs the 4MB cache on the supported 2Ghz C2D, the T7200. It is the correct socket, Socket M.

So... long story short, can anybody give me some confidence that this chip will work before I tear the sucker apart? If it goes south, my lovely wife will be unhappy, since it's her primary computer.

Thanks for any input!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the T5750 is the wrong socket. It is socket P. It will work in a T61, but not in a T60/Z61t. :(

For a Z61t you need either a Core Duo, or a Core 2 Duo T5200/5300/5500/5600/7200/7400/7600.
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

I tried to put a T5200 into my R60e. It would not boot with the T5200. I don't know if the same is true of the Z series. Some or all of the Core Duo or Core 2 Duo variants like the T5200 or T2450 for example may not work.
