Horrific power use with Ericsson F3507g

#1 Post by donzoomik » Wed Dec 02, 2009 4:50 am

I've been researching my lowered battery life issue since first beta. After fixing a lot of driver issues over the year, i guess the new native WWAN driver is seriously malfunctioning.

If i disable it via Fn+F5, it seems to remain active (and actively drawing power), as reported by poweercfg. Root HUB shows only minor power use, but when disabled via BIOS (i used port security), power draw decreases significantly.

When enabled, power use NEVER drops below 11-12W.
When disabled, power draw sometimes hits 6W, usually 7-9W.

I just reinstalled my system and used SU to install only supported drivers to be sure. Tried updating where possible to possibly fix issue, but no use. Can somebody confirm?

ASPM is still broken by powercfg. God only knows, by what component.

Edit: also, there might be a bug in BIOS. It took me about 10 restarts and shutdowns, several tries to change settings to reenable WWAN just now. Only clear CMOS made BIOS accept WWAN - Enable.

For me too, it cuts off 2 hours of my battery time while on WWAN instead of WLAN.

There are several market offers of Win 7, in 32 bit and 64 bit versions. So what are you running?

SKUs make no difference.
Tried both 32 and 64bit, same deal.
SSD helps to offset it a bit but not all of it.
