I have a T43 and want to be able to connect it to a Compaq pc so that each computer can access each others files etc. Both computers are only a matter of 3 feet away from each other if that helps.
Any help greatly appreciated

Re: Connecting to pc
You need to activate Filesharing on both.

1) You need a router. I found a Netgear router at my local recycling center. The previous owner threw it away because it lost its ability to perform wireless networking.
2) alternate choice - Crossover (two-way) ethernet cable

Re: Connecting to pc
There are many ways of connecting two computers when it comes to file sharing.
One the elementay level, you will need a hardware connection.
On a secondary level, you will need appropriate drivers.
The hardware connection could be a IR-IR connection, a serial port-serial port connection, a parallel port-paralle port connection, a lan-lan connection
and possibly also a usb-usb connection - and more.
On the hardware level, some of the possibilities will be ruled out by the required hardware not being present.
On the software lavel, some of the possibilities will be ruled out by the lack of drivers. Eg. in dos you may find it difficult to find a usb driver.
And some of the options may be ruled out, due to the lack of speed.
Without knowing the actual hardware, operating systems and speed requirements, it will not be possible to say what options will be available.
The most sensible option would be to setup a kind of home network, as already described by robert213.
Preferrably with a network router, which may also enable you to a share an internet connection, share NAS disks and share printers
and it will be easy to expand to more than two pc's etc.
With a wireless router and wireless support in the pc's you may even be able to connect to your home network without a cable connection.
