Any T43p techies? Help identifying a part please

#1 Post by dca860 » Sat Dec 05, 2009 9:57 pm

Folks
I have totally dismantled and reassembled my Thinkpad T43 to replace a
dodgy power socket (why is such a part buried so deep).
HOWEVER
I have a part left over and I can't for the life of me recall taking it
out (and so it probably fell out at some point when I flipped it over)
It is a smallish plastic moulding and looks perhaps like some sort of cable
routing support?
It has number 67P1358 E126909 on it which a search either shows as a
completely different shape or it comes up with a palm rest moulding.

Two shots of it here if anyone can help me to try and identify where it
belongs?

Many thanks

Hi David and welcome to the forums

That part looks like it's off the palmrest but is usually attached to it.

Looking at this image, it's the bit of plastic along the top right edge of the palmrest and when fitted, drops into the space on the motherboard between the top edge of the PCMCIA cage and the bottom edge of the fan - if you see what I mean!

Gotcha. It's the part that collects any liquid spillage on the keyboard, and the drainhole in that part goes all the way through the bottom of the base.
Until now I didn't know that piece could come off...

Ahhh - I am sooo pleased that I am not going to have to strip it down again (I am at the point of re-attaching the palmrest/touchpad)
Sincere thanks for the advice and the welcome (and here's hoping that it can be re-attached)

Thanks to you too.
Here's hoping it is easily re-attached
I got this at a good price with a faulty HDD and a dodgy PSU jack.

The new HDD (HTS541680J9AT00) will give me the 2010 error but that's something else I am working on and may have found a solution for on another thread on here (what a useful and willing resource you folks are!)

Best

If you are lucky, you may flash the HD hardware, otherwise there is a BIOS bypass in the latest version BIOS.
It'll still give the error, but automatically continues booting after a few seconds.

Whenever it's happened to me I just stick it in the right place on the motherboard and place the palmrest over it.

I've just got a load of new ones in - PM me if you want me to send you one, a couple of quid or so each. Yeah I know it means stripping it but it's not too difficult...!

Hey poshgeordie; if I'd have known beforehand, I'd have grabbed one off for sure but sadly I already purchased on eBay for £5 - the replacement of which was the reason or the strip-down.
It was after I already fitted it and I started to reassemble, the misc part became apaprent!
Now that you guys have located it's resting place I'll finish the re-build tomorrow (and then fingers crossed that I got it all back correctly).
Thanks again
