X60 memory upgrade: 4gb 667mhz CL4 for MAC is it possible?

#1 Post by OMNIBUS » Sun Dec 06, 2009 5:59 am

hallo
i would to upgrade my memory that is now 2gb and i saw this http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/26337 ... _KIT_.aspx with a reasonable price.
so my questions are (after reading other posts) :
could i use all the 4 gb 667 mhz CL4 (instead CL5 as ibm site's recomendation) without any issue?
is it actually impossible that the OS recognizes al 4gb due to chipset limitation?
how let to recognize all 4gb ? change OS? or what? (like windows server 2008, seven or what? i mean..)
any help are apreciated!
thankyou

It should work, but indeed it will only recognize 3GB due to chipset limitation. Changing OS will not help. :(

i bought and installed that :
BIOS recognizes 4096k of memory
Windows XP sp3 recognizes 2,99gb
so does it means that there is not the chipset limitation in other threads mentioned but only a O.S. limitation?
if i'd use Win 7 i'd solve this issue?
there are all drivers for my X60 1706-E3U for Win7?

Doesn't matter what OS you use, the chipset limitation is 3GB RAM. What BIOS sees is irrelevant to the OS.

so even if the bios sees 4gb the machine and so the chipset recognizes and work only at 3gb? OS indipendant?
