Fingerprint reader on Win 7

#1 Post by Entropy1024 » Sun Dec 06, 2009 8:39 am

I recently loaded Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit onto my T60 Laptop.

I have loaded the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and can log onto widows with a swipe of my finger fine. I can't use it for anything else though. On the older XP platform I could use the fingerprint reader with any program or website that required a passsword.

Does anyone know how to achieve this on Win7?

Many thanks for any help

I am wondering about same question now ...
I want to protect my some personal folders with files with fingerprint.
I have installed this http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-73785
but I still don´t know how to enable files protection with fingerprint.

I found some manual on IBM.com page, but it is designed for older OS than win 7 I think.

You need CSS (Client Security Solution) to be able to do all that stuff.

If you use Firefox, CSS won't work correctly. It's been a while, but Lenovo has yet to fix the plug in needed to make it work correctly with Firefox 3.x. There is a hack out there but it's a hit and miss fix. I could never get the plug in to work with the hack and Firefox 3 in Vista and the same problem exists for me in Win 7.

Not sure about Firefox as I dont like it and dont use it nor would I endorse it to anymone. The reason password manager doesn't work is a confilict with Office 2007. Turn off PWM and turn on again and you should be good to go. There is also a patch through the ThinkVantage Update Service but I didn't bother. Claims to address the problem.
