my T400s is a lemon

#1 Post by Art Vandelay » Sun Dec 06, 2009 10:30 pm

I bought my T400s in August and I was thrilled with it until last week. The speakers stopped working for no apparent reason. The computer is still under warranty, so it got shipped to Lenovo and they fixed or replaced the defective speakers. But they broke the Bluetooth. I got it back and the device manager doesn't even see Bluetooth hardware. So I have to send it back again and be without the computer for a few more days while they fix or replace the Bluetooth. Hopefully they wont break anything else!

My old R61 ran like a tank. I think Lenovo's quality is going down. do they have to cut back on the quality of the parts to make a buck? I am not a very happy customer right now. Next time I buy a computer, Lenovo might not get my business.

No offense, but too many people, upon encountering an issue with a new machine that they happened not to experience with a previous one, immediately jump to the wrong conclusion "quality is going down". If that was the case, then I assure you that quality has been going down since the very first computer was released, which means that at this point computers would be unusable piles of junk. Which clearly isn't the case.

The T400s went to Lenovo yesterday. Did they get it fixed today? Nope! Its still sitting in Memphis TN and no one touched it today. I am livid! They sent it back to me once, more broken than before! I would have thought it would have been a high priority repair, but I guess not. Lenovo's service is crap! I pity anyone who has to deal with these nitwits who cant seem to make a simple repair in a timely fashion without breaking the computer even more. I should have the computer back tomorrow, but instead the idiots at the repair depot didn't even touch the thing today. Lenovo pays lip service to wanting to provide good service, but they cant deliver. All talk, no action. I am seriously thinking about selling the ThinkPad on Craigslist and getting a computer that isn't a piece of junk, and where the company can actually repair it without making it worse.

being livid does you no good.. its just not healthy..
first relax and then call for an update..
be nice but firm..
i hope your T400 gets back to you ASAP..

I HATE sending any computer off for repair - they usually do not handle the computer the same way as the owner. Assembly with care - seems to be a thing of the past on many items these days. If I can, I try to do the repairs myself - then, any issues - I can blame myself

Really, this carries over into most items these days - 4 major items this year required repair or replacement(dsl/router/modem, dehumidifier, oven display/control panel, washer)! 3 to 5 years from new...should be longer wait in my book. These items were purchased based on all those ratings, reviews, and reports that most of us sift through. Just my mileage here :|

Lenovo made it right. After escalating the matter, they have agreed that 3 repairs since August is not right, and Lenovo is sending me a brand new T400s as a replacement. I am very pleased and grateful that they did the right thing.

So it turns out that you sort of overreacted in your previous posts :P

Overreacted? Me? ;)

Well, maybe a bit. But it did take getting my blood pressure up before the telephone reps escalated me far enough up the food chain at Lenovo to get satisfaction. But like I said, I am happy. They made it right. I appreciate the person at Lenovo who saw my side and restored my faith in the company and its products.
