I recently restored a 310ED, which I plan to use for one of my friend's competition then sell for about $30-40.
I bought it for $20, and it was quite a heap; white marks and scratches covered the edges and scattered the case, the CD-ROM wouldn't work half the time, and the PC card slots wouldn't work right. Plus because of a graphics issue, it was limited to 800x600 in 16 color. even changing to 640x480 crashed the system.
After a bit of work though, it's working very nicely. The CD-ROM works perfectly and the case looks pretty nice, thanks to a bit of touch up paint. Thank goodness the case wasn't the special rubbery plastic.
When I bought the machine I bought it with a 760ED as well, which suffered an ill fate when I tried running a 2.1 GB HD with it, the power supply might have failed, and it refuses to take power from the adapter(but still takes power from the battery. lol.) I stripped it and donated it to the school to be used as a photo prop. I ended up taking the RAM out of the 760 and putting it in the 310, and the 310 accepted it, and now has 64 MB RAM.
Question: The 310's performance doesn't seem to significantly change when the extra RAM is installed, so should I remove the other 32 MB stick for use in other Thinkpads, or keep it in the 310 and sell it with the extra RAM?

There's whole are several threads initiated by member toddyjoe who did some pretty extreme things to his 310ED, they are really interesting and entertaining to read. I'd suggest you do a search for him and read up on what can be done to a machine like yours. You'll be amazed; I was!
