IBM Java Removal Not Working

#1 Post by Zirynx » Fri Feb 18, 2005 11:23 am

I'm trying hard but believe me, the factory install of IBM Java refuses to leave!!

In addition to the two Java control panel/plugins in the 'Programs' menu (1.4.1 and 1.2), I also have two related entries in Add/Remove progs, and both say "IBM 32-bit SDK for Java, v1.4.1"; one has a Java icon and has a 'change/remove' option; the other has a generic installer icon and has no 'change/remove' option.

I can go through the motions for the 'change/remove' option that is present, but although it appears to complete, it doesn't remove anything. I have repeated this several times and restarted.

I'd like to remove these components before installing the latest Java plugin, and I know from reading here that other folks have successfully removed this stuff. Is there a secret?!

Thanks.

I removed the IBM version without problem. I am using a relatively recent version of the standard JAVA runtime environment (1.42_6 IIRC). Try removing, shutting down, restarting and then removing any Java folders in Program Files. Then try installing what you want and see if Add/Remove Programs has just your entry. ... JD Hurst
