Free play in screen pivot mechanism.

#1 Post by albo » Thu Dec 10, 2009 4:02 pm

Hi Folks,

I have a T400, which has performed ok (except for numerous lenovo software f-ups). Now, however, there's some very annoying freeplay in the screen. What I mean is that, when it's set at an angle, I can flop it back and forth a bit - maybe an inch or so of action at the top of the screen area. My lame ascii-art below illustrates the free play.

Code: Select all

          <--  /  -->    free play
              /
     screen  /
            /
-----------/   <-- rotation mechanism
  base
Anyone else have issues with this? Any easy way to fix it without dealing with warranty services?

Thanks,
Alex

Some play is always present. But an inch sounds somewhat excessive. The problem is the hinges that seem to loosen over time. Unfortunately I know of no solution other than replacing them (which Lenovo will do under warranty).
