4 port USB 2.0 for T30
4 port USB 2.0 for T30
I used this pcmcia USB 2.0 card on my T30 and it got over the limitation of slow USB 1.x ports at the back of the pc.
Much more convenient to have x4 USB 2.0 ports on the side anyway.
Beware ,it has limitation of current supply to power hungry devices eg usb powered hard drives. It will do most pen drives ,camera connections ok.
If you want to do backup storage using external USB 2.0 drives on it ,you will need to provide it with its own power source.

Hope this helps

With a cable with USB connector at one end and a 5V DC connector at the other...
5V DC power can be obtained from the original USB 1.1 ports.
For example,
The AKE USB 2.0 PC Card BC168 includes a cable to pull 5V DC power from one of the original USB 1.1 ports.

Re: 4 port USB 2.0 for T30
Thanks for the links . I will look out for these cards when i next visit the local pc store.
I have been using my 4 port usb 2 cards for over a year now without any issues.
I eject them whenever i travel or pack the pc away .
Bought 5 of them in 28 july 08 . They come up as via rev5 in device manager. I regularly copy data to and from 2g ,4g flash drives and the usb 2 is fast and error free.
XP Sp3 never hangs or needs restarts, so guess i am happy with their performance.
After prolong use they feel warm to touch.

Greetings.
I now have three pcmcia»USB 2.0 cards -
one for each of my XP laptops.
I just bought a three port from deLock which has a power cable
that I hook up to one of the USB 1.1 ports. Those ports are good
for providing electricity - also for my mobile USB speakers ...
DeLock also sells a 4-port. I bought a 3-port and that seems be going well.
There are some unexplained things about how these three cards
work - or don't - on each of the three XP laptops.
Bottom-line is I can only use my USB-Analog CableTV video device
on one of the three XP laptops with the/a pcmcia»USB card.
The driver that works on the T30 with all three cards on laptop "i"
is the standard MS driver, but this driver does not function
on either of the other two XP laptops with any of the cards.
I can also use the USBVideo device on the two built-in 2.0 ports
on laptop "G". Laptop "i" is the T30 and is the only XP laptop
that fully works with each of the three pcmcia»USB cards -
also works with the USBVideo device.
Too bad IBM didn't "space" the pcmcia slots better.
I mentioned previously elsewhere that the slots are well positioned
on the Toshiba from 1998. A wireless fits well in the bottom slot
and any second card fits well in the top slot. The pcmcia slots
on the/my T30 are too close together. The cards push up/down
against each other. The wireless card seems "curved" now ...
Any helpful replies/insights appreciated.
Thank you.

AEN

It would help if you stop speaking in riddles!
XP-laptop, laptop "i" and laptop "G" mean diddly squat to us.
It's also not clear whether you are stating facts or are complaining. If the latter, about what?

Not that it matters - but for the record -
I'll say that the opinions of anonymous forum nobodies don't concern me -
especially when they are so distorted ...

In any case (unlike some out there) I have better things to do ...

As far as I can tell my post is not incorrect.
I said the "stock" "Cisco pci card only runs @ ..." not any other miniPCI card.
