My X61s recently started shutting down if I pick it up or hold it by the front of the computer where the wrist wrest would be, it will also do it if I put even a small amount of pressure on the wrist rest area. It will do it for either side and all the way from side to side, it has also done it a couple times to me if I pressed on the trackpoint hard.I can pick it up by holding the sides and I can hold it from underneath with no issues.
It doesn't matter if I'm on battery, AC or both, I have run PC Doctor through the ThinkVantage utilities and everything looks good. It will run for hours with no problems if it is just left on my desk.
Please help, I can't for the life of me figure out why it would shut down I am open to any suggestions.
Thanks,
Kevin

Re: X61s Shuts Down When Picked Up
Do you have any warranty remaining on your system, by any chance? If you do I would highly suggest sending it in for a warranty repair.
If not, was there any event that preceded this behavior, such as a drop, spill onto the keyboard, perhaps even being wedged too tightly between books in a bookbag or something like that? Have you tried to handle the notebook after putting it into sleep mode to see if it still powers off? How about moving the notebook when in the system BIOS(to ensure that it's not a software fault of some sort)?
My first wild guess would be that the motherboard is experiencing an intermittent failure. I doubt this will help, but try turning off the hard drive active protection system to see if that isn't somehow shutting the computer off when triggered?
