I've just receive a Thinkpad R51 bought from ebay, it seems to have everything inside. only Battery, a few screws and ram memory are missed.
When powered on the fan works but no video, already connected to an external monitor and still no video.
Where to start checking?
Thanks!!!
Alfredo

Wait, you didn't hear any beeps when you tried to boot with no memory installed? If you didn't, the motherboard is dead.

Any number of things.

If you like the machine, you could replace the board.

My guess was that the wrong sized screws (too large) were used to reassemble the machine. Your only option is to replace the systemboard.

Looking at that again, I'd just keep your R51 as spares...had an R40 with a motherboard fault and gained a HDD/caddy from it, and a second charger!! And more screws!
