R40 Loud Fan on left

#1 Post by gtruk9 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 10:53 am

Hi ya'll -- I am sure this topic has been posted before, but what would be a suggestion to fix a fan that is getting louder and louder on the left side of the r40 laptop... everything is working okay -- boot up/software etc., just the fan is getting chronically louder...(sounds like a grinding noise in the background) :? .

Thanks to all on this board in advance.

The only way to fix it by conventional means is to replace the fan.

I imagine replacing the fan is the best thing to do but it still seems to work okay just noisy..... I guess like a car it's just gonna get worse --- just wondering how long I have and if it is bad to keep running it that way.

It is possible that if the fan freezes and overheats that it will blow a fuse on the systemboard. Then you really have an issue to deal with...but just like a car, as the old saying goes...you can pay me now, or you can pay me later :).
