Ethernet drops to 10mbs when idle even when on AC

#1 Post by schmidtj » Fri Dec 11, 2009 8:35 pm

I got a new TP W700 and just upgraded it to Win 7 (clean install). It works very nicely except I'm perplexed about one issue. Regardless of which Power Profile I use, the ethernet speed drops from Gigabit to 10mbs when the system is idle even when it's running on AC power. I, for the life of me, don't know it this is a Power Manager issue, a Windows 7 quirk. I turned off the "system can power this device off" opting in the NICs properties but to no avail. I'd like to see the adapter stay synced an Gigabit when on AC power so processes that wake up have a high speed network connection.
Any ideas what's causing this behavior?
Tnx.

Not sure as to Windows 7, but there might be an extra power setting if you click on network connections, right click your adapter, click properties, click configure and go to the advance tab. I found a power management setting there for the wireless adapter. The setting was, in my opinion, rather hidden.
