Problem with USB-Keyboard

#1 Post by christopath » Mon Dec 14, 2009 9:26 am

Hi

I have several cases of T60p's (2008-83G) where I needed to update to the latest BIOS Version 2.25 2009-08-27, due to display problems.

Unfortunately, since the update of the BIOS, the notebooks (which are docked in docking stations) refuse to recognize the attached Lenovo USB-keyboards while booting, neither when plugged in to the docking station nor the notebook itself. I always have to open the notebook to enter BIOS or to type the power on password directly on the internal keyboard.

Once Windows is up and running, the external keyboard works fine.

Has anyone ever experienced this phenomenon? If yes, do you know how to rectify it? I know I could rollback to an older BIOS, but then I'd have the initial display issues.

Much obliged,
Chris

There is an option in BIOS to enable USB keyboard support on boot. Make sure it's enabled.

Thanx for the tip, Virge, but I already checked that option. It is enabled. I even dis- and the re-enabled it, but it still doesn't work

I have the same problem since updating the BIOS, it is not unique to Lenovo keyboards

fyi for dock users, you can regain boot time functionality if your USB keyboard is PS/2 compatible and you connect it to the PS/2 connector on the dock using a USB-to-PS/2 converter

They just had to screw something up.

I actually was contemplating updating to 2.25, but this time I chose to listen to the voice of wisdom: "if it works, don't touch it".

Both my T60 machines are running 2.23 and are quite happy with it. :)

The most important fix for me came with 2.21, and it is the ability to disable legacy ports on the dock. With them enabled, the machine would freeze upon losing AC power while docked (which unfortunately happens way too often in my house.)
