W500 rattling sound

#1 Post by obs » Mon Dec 14, 2009 5:55 pm

I just got a W500 and immediately noticed a metallic slide/rattle sound when I flipped the laptop over to check the serial. It seems to be coming from the left hand side but I can't be sure. I removed the DVD drive and the battery is not in. Sound lasts only a half second or so, and repeats if I tilt the laptop over 45 degrees or so to the left or right.

Is this typical?

Sounds like a loose part. I wouldn't power it up until the part is removed.

Yip ..... I got two NEWER w500, with BD writer ,,, and they do same " noise" thingie ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Weird , never really noticed , nor it botherd me , till now !!

I checked , nothing inside ,,, seems its the 'write/read head' moving freely up and down the slide , inside the DVD writer- well i hope so!

Well , there is always a "RETURN with90days" option !!
