IBM refuses to service my laptop because of spillover!

#1 Post by lakersgo » Fri Feb 18, 2005 9:10 pm

I have a IBM R40 thinkpad which I bought 10 months ago, it's still warranty, but IBM refuses to service it because they found spillover on my laptop! WTF is that! Anyway, to save my breath, I've decided to repair the thing myself, I am just wondering if the LCD cable is generic or not, and please someone give me a direct link as to where i can to find parts? I know the part number (I've dissemble it myself) but can't find links on IBM's website. Thanks

What do you mean they found spillover? Did you dump a cup of coffee in it or something, or are they saying they found something else?

If it's the coffee, that's not covered by warranty. If it's the latter, however, you can search the mailing list archives at http://zurich.ai.mit.edu to find a similar story that eventually did get resolved and may can get some information from it on how to proceed.

They said I must have in the past spilled some beverage over the laptop and they refuse to service the laptop because of that. I admit I might have carelessly let that happened before, but I highly doubt that's the cause. Anyway, I already figure out how to dissemble the laptop, I just need to buy parts now, they are fru # 08k4070 and 26p8400. Do you guys know any reputable reseller for these parts? I tried froogle them...and they all look like scam :(
