I have a T61 for which I have been faithfully making backups using ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery onto a portable USB drive. My T61 died and I suspect a system board problem. I have another non-IBM spare laptop which I am currently using but there is data which I urgently need from the rrbackups. When I boot from the USB drive I get as far as the Rescue and Recovery splash screen and then the laptop reboots repeating this cycle endlessly. I persume Rescue and Recovery expects an IBM PC. I download the ThinkVantage Rescue and Recover 4.2 from the IBM website but the install fails as it is not licensed to operate on this non-Thinkpad laptop. As I am currently sailing in Guatemala, local tech support is poor or not easily available.
Is there a way to recovery specific data files from rrbackups using a standard non-ThinkPad laptop running XP?
Thanking you in advance for a solution.

Re: Restoring data from RRBuckups
Try using Windows Explorer to recover files frokm the USB hard drive.

Re: Restoring data from RRBuckups
The files on the USB HDD are created in a RRbackup directory which are a series of dataxxx files and only readable by Rescue and Recovery (ie compressed and divided into 48,832 KB sets). Even though I can see these dataxxx files they must first be restored to their actual files and then I will be able to open them in their applicable application.
I was wondering if maybe there is a third party application other than Rescue and Recovery to do that operation.
