T42MoBo - will it boot out of the chassis?

#1 Post by xxPaulCPxx » Sat Dec 19, 2009 4:57 pm

I just reflowed my Dad's T42. After It cooled down, I connected the LCD ribbon, the long fan, power, speaker, and keyboard ribbon back to the MB, which still had the RAM mounted.

It powers up, the fan spins, but no sounds and nothing on the screen. Just checking if it has to be mounted in the case before it will boot (Needs a ground path) or if I bricked it and need to give the reflow another try.

BTW, I did manage to reflow my T40 successfully, so I'm not a total clod!

You may want to give that board another session of re-flowing...yes, it should boot regardless whether it's installed in the chassis or not...

Remove the RAM now, and turn it on again. Does it beep?

I'll have to get back to this in a couple of weeks -I'll try it with the RAM out first, thanks!

OK, here is the scoop so far:

I tried reflowing again getting it up to 230c before slowly bringing it down.

I still get nothing but the fan spinning after hitting the power switch. I pulled the ram, still no beep.

The lights along the bottom of the display bezel light up normally (num lock, cap lock, power, batt, sleep... batt and sleep turn off, then cap and num lock turn of leaving just power lit.

Nothing appears on the display, and no sounds. I do have the speakers plugged in.

Reflow to higher temp?

I'd rather suggest a reball by an expert with the proper equipment.

Yep - you've overcooked it and it needs a reball - sorry!

OK, two votes for reballing... you say it's overcooked... what temp should you bring it to to reflow? I kept it to 230C, others seem to go to 250C. I cooked it at the lower temp?

As for ReBalling, is Superior/GPU Medics the only US outfit?
