x31 won't print but it did before MBoard change

#1 Post by pellicle » Tue Dec 22, 2009 4:37 am

Folks

I have an x31 (well two of them) which is using win2000. I recently changed my motherboard and when going to print today it wouldn't print.

I tried re-installin the port, re-installing the driver, getting the driver from the win2000 update, checking that it was enabled in BIOS (3BC and IRQ7), and a few other things, but it still won't print

now, I was suspecting that my printer was cactus, but I plugged in my x20 (with ubuntu) and it prints to the printer (Canon LBP-4U btw) so I can't blame that anymore.

the documents go to the printer window and appear to be printing even though nothing is happening at the printer ... how odd

any thoughts?

Don't know, but I have a motherboard (not an X31) with a non-functional parallel port. It worked for a long while then one day it didn't work, and has never worked since. Everything else about the system still works fine, just no parallel printer port. Could be your problem is something similar.

Edit: Just realized the motherboard I'm talking about is a desktop, where the port is on the board. In the X31 (and most all Thinkpads) the connector is on the I/O board. There are two or three jumper wires that plug into the system board. Maybe on of those was left unplugged, or not fully seated. :??: Just a thought.
