Display issue with X200/Windows 7 docking/undocking

#1 Post by ballallaz » Fri Dec 25, 2009 11:27 pm

I have a brand new X200 with Windows 7, latest driver and Windows 7 fully patched.

Every time I dock/undock my X200 from the ultra-base connected to USB keyboard/mouse + LENOVO 24" 1900x1600 display connected via VGA cable, the display seems corrupted.
I have lines from several colors and the display is unusable.

The only solution I found was to reboot.

See linked image:

All my co-workers who have a docking station have the same issue.
(all the same X200... )

Anybody had that problem?

Thanks

I have this EXACT same problem, and also see this often occur even when not switching between docking modes. It's hideous.

The work-around I've found for me is to manually switch power plans (normally "balanced") to "Power Saver" then back to "Balanced".

I have no idea what is causing this but it's incredibly frustrating. I am running the latest driver version from intel.com (I upgraded in an effort to fix this while troubleshooting - from the original Windows 7 out of box drivers to the latest Lenovo drivers now to these latest Intel drivers).

In addition, I had some other very nasty video tearing issues that I fixed by disabling Intel VT-D in the BIOS (a trick from the Lenovo forums I believe). Quite frankly, the state of these Intel GMA 4500 drivers/hardware support is absurdly bad - not sure if it's a Lenovo or Intel issue, but it's an embarrassment.

I have the same Issue. Appears after resuming from S3 (hibernation?).. you know, resuming from HD.
But only .. say, every 8-10th time.

I changed to another X200 a couple of days ago, and the problem is still there. Only kept my Crucial M225 SSD, everything else in laptop is brand new.

So either the problem is tied to that paticular SSD drive,.. or its a generel issue on the X200's.

I and one more man from link, have the same trouble:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-Th ... 425#M13081

Model 7459-1F1. After 3-4-5 times restoring from hibernate, on screen i see flickers artifacts. Like errors video memory on desktop videocard after incorrect overclocking. After reboot is all right on next 3-4-5 times.

This bug ONLY after hibernate, other all situation i can't repeat its situation.
What i probe -
restore to factory default from recovery partition
change vista x86 to WIN7 x64 and x86
update to latest video driver, monitor driver, bios.
Nothing happening :((

P.S. For me docking-undocking going all right, without artifacts. External display Dell 2007(1650x1080)

Hi all!

May be i found solution. Only for me or for all, i don't know.
I did so:
1. Install WIN7 Pro RUS upgrade in mode "clean install"
2. When nout place in dock, run Lenovo system update via ethernet connection,
and install all need drivers.
3. Go to Lenovo support page, and install other software, what system update not download(cam software, airbag protection, enhanced security, backup and restore, ets...)
4. Go to Lenovo Power Manager, and in page "global power setting" - "events" - "lid closed" set "hibernate". NOT IN windows power manager(may be it is important?).
5. Go to intel display manager, and check power management. It set as "users settings")
Sorry, may be english words in menu is something others, my win have russian interface.

After all this steps, i go to hibernate and back more them 20 times. All works correctly.

I tested external monitor and docking/undocking AFTER this 5 steps. May be this method helps you too.

This function is not available in my settings. Can you provide us with a screen shot?
Thanks for your suggestion, anyway.

I have the same problem with my x200s and I do not have a dock.

I experience this when I have the laptop hibernating and I conect it to the power supply. When I resume (with the PS connected) I have the display issue. The only solution is rebooting.

Running Win 7 in a SSD.
a w520, a couple of T60@T61, a affs modded x201 and some other older stuff.

"Настройки питания" translate as Power management, on ENG.

http://photofile.ru/users/boroda1012/96 ... ull_image/

P.S. I thing it is not memory, or memory controller issue. Imho trouble from incorrect
power management IGP. May be voltage too low after undocking or up from hibernate...

My config:
Original description: P8400(2.26GHz), 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel 4500MHD, Intel 802.11agn, Bluetooth, WWAN upgradeable, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, X200 UltraBase+CDRW/DVDRW, FPR, Camera, 2GB Intel Turbo Memory, 6c, WinVista Business 32

Changes - HDD160-HDD320(7200RPM WD)
Vista Bus to Win 7 Pro
Intel 802.11agn(5100) to Intel 5150(WiMax).

Imho SSD or HDD is not different to this bug.

Now I can confirm - the problem at me is solved. 3 days, are more than 50 times.
Problems on the screen are not present more.

P.S. Latest drivers from Lenovo for Intel Graphics is 8.15.10.1872.
Latest from Intel is 8.15.10.1886(3 November)
http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm

The driver from intel are perfectly installed, I now test them.

I have Windows 7 x64.

Maybe its a 64 bit driver bug ??!

I have indeed Windows 7 x64 too.
Anybody knows if people on Windows 7 x86 have the same issue?

There is no difference х64 or х86 win7. I tried. My problem has begun on Vista х86, then i install win7 x64(and see same problem), and then all experiments has continued on x86 win7.
