ThinkPad R50P: When I have the "IBM hard Drive Active Protection System" turned on my computer becomes very sluggish to almost a state of freeze ups.

When I have the protection system turned off everthing is fine.

I applied the critical patch for this problem when it first came out but have since reformated the HD. I am told though that the patch flashed whatever & therefore should not be need to be applied again.

Any help on this problem.

If you are talking about the update from document MIGR-53150 I dont think it touches any firmware therefore would need to be updated again if you reformatted your drive.
