Help on locating thumb drives

#1 Post by jronald » Sun Dec 27, 2009 7:28 am

Im looking for a dozen or so USB thumb drives, nothing larger than 1gig, as they are going to be transported to school with an 8 year old. Best price I have found is about $5.00 shipped for 512mb.
Anyone out there find a better price?
It goes along with this http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=82459

Thanks
Ron

There's a DIY option, where you make your own flash drives, using USB card readers and SD or MMC cards.
10-pack of the above: $17.99

Plus whatever you pay for SD or MMC cards. SD is slightly cheaper.
Or you may have these cards already if you are a hobby photographer.

A bit more expensive, but bigger: 3-pack 2GB Sandisk Cruzer for $17.49 + shipping

RBS spotted those this morning, and it is tempting...need your address when you get a moment

Harryc I wonder how many sheets of homework (in Word) 1gig would hold?. Thats why I was really looking for dirt cheap 128mb.

Thanks

Here is a link for Kingston 1GB USB thumb drives for $4.60 plus shipping (which looks reasonable).

http://www.govgroup.com/kingston-1gb-da ... 3-prd1.htm

For 25 2GB USB thumb drives at $7.60 each delivered, this is hard to beat --> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0387251912

I can provide you with dozens of 128MB USB thumb drive bracelets (you can cut off the plastic and they look like normal thumb drives - or keep them as bracelets) for $1 each plus $5 shipping, so 12 would be $17.

These are new, never used.

Just PM me if you are interested.

An average Word doc is probably around 40-50 KB.

becuase I don't live in the US like you jroanld (I live in the UK), I don't know what is "cheap" overthrere, but I'm assuming this is fairly cheap?
http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-512MB-Da ... =8-1-fkmr0
Only 512MB though, or if you want to spend a little bit more??...
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Mi ... 775&sr=1-8
...you can have this 4GB penstick with no cap, instead it has device sort of thing that pulls in the USB. my friend had one of these (but in 2GB) and he said it was really good. I personally quite like these however...(which is why I have 2 of them!)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Integral-Courer ... 922&sr=8-2
...for 4GB, £3.45 is a really good deal. However when I looked for the model (Integral 4GB) on Amazon.Com it didn't come up with any results - so I don't know if you can get this model in the USA? If you can though, I'd recommend it!

Hope this helps?? :D

FYI, I saw that first one ($3.49 512MB stick from Amazon), too, but they add $4.99 per stick for shipping. Not a deal at that point, better deals posted above.

sorry, didn't see the shipping! But anyway, that's $4.99 shipping is a bit rubbish for something that is really not very big at all.
