Crashes on trying to sleep/T400 Windows 7

#1 Post by andrewrg1 » Sun Dec 27, 2009 11:35 am

I just installed Windows 7 Professional on my t400. Everything works smoothly except that when I try to put the laptop to sleep, it simply crashes instead. This has happened 4 times (every time I put it to sleep) and I haven't been able to find out why. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Sleep worked once (immediately after the laptop was booted up) but does not seem to work in any other situations.

This may or may not help you, but I've had horrible sleep/hibernate recovery and very long log in experiences with Windows 7... after spending way too much time looking for driver updates... I decided to start with the basics and start trimming down the software.

I found the common issue with login/sleep/hibernate issues were coming from the ThinkVantage Fingerprint software and drivers. Even though I was using the very latest which claimed to have fixed the issue - as soon as I uninstalled it from the Add/Remove Programs control panel - my problems went away.

Login - quick and painless.
Sleep - fast
Wake up - pow, near instant on.
Hibernate - 4GB of memory take a while to dump to the HDD but the wake up is spot on.

Before I could wait 2-3 minutes after a sleep, and many times have to reset the laptop to login.

Fingerprint logins would take 30-45 seconds.
