Reassigning Fx (for x = 11,12, etc)

#1 Post by mtucker » Mon Dec 28, 2009 4:59 pm

Hi -

My ThinkPad was recently reformatted and set up with Windows XP. As part of that reconfiguration, I lost my custom mapping of the F12 key. For some time now, my PgDn key hasn't worked properly so I used some tool that came with my ThinkPad that let me bind F12 to the PgDn behavior. The problem is that I can't figure out how I did it. I am fairly certain that there was a utility in the Thinkvantage suite that let me do this, but I can't find it now. The only thing that I *can* find is the Keyboard Customizer, but it seems to lack this capability. Does anyone know of a tool in the IBM/Lenovo suite that will let me do this remapping?

Thanks,
Mike

Search for the Sharpkey tool. This small tool allows you to change registry for scancode mapping.

OK. I did it for you:
save this text as a reg file, for example F12toPgDn.reg:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,51,e0,58,00,00,00,00,00
Double click it to install to the registry. Then reboot the computer. That's all.
Compaq 386SX > AST 486SX-25 > TP 390E > Compaq N410C > T41 2373-9U5 > T42p 2378-RVU UXGA 1.7@2.45GHz > T60p UXGA modded to T61 8889-ACG with T8300 OCed to 3.2Ghz@1.20V, undervolted to 1.6Ghz@0.775v, Nvidia NVS-140M undervolted to 0.9v, PCI-E ASPM enabled, 11W power in idle.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will play around with that, though I am still convinced that when I did this in the past I used a supported tool from IBM/Lenovo. I guess no one else has come across it?

The only IBM/Lenovo utility that I know of with related functionality is the Keyboard Customizer Utility, and it doesn't do anything like these things you mentioned...
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

I am familiar with Keyboard Customizer, and I agree that it is definitely not the tool that I must have used. Perhaps I was mistaken and it was a third party utility that I used. I could have sworn, however, that I used some utility that I found after clicking the blue "ThinkVantage" button at the top of my keyboard.
