HDD or SSD?
I've noticed some people have HDDs while others have SSDs. I wanted to know what percentage of users here who have either type.
Could you please list the thinkpad and hdd/ssd make and model?
Right now, I have the Hitachi 160gb 5400rmp hdd that comes with the current X200, but I' considering moving to a 60gig ssd or very fast 7200rmp drive.

Re: HDD or SSD?
I'm using the Intel X25-M 80 gig drive on a T60. Works great and is delightfully fast. Just make sure defrag is turned off. No need to worry about any other settings. There's lots of wackadoodle tips for SSDs on the 'net, and most of them are bogus.Synthetickiller wrote:I've noticed some people have HDDs while others have SSDs. After six months, zero problems and speed remains great. They work with Windows 7, Vista and XP.
Re: HDD or SSD?
Lenovo 60GB SSD in my X41 tablet.
It is a 'slow' Samsung, and SO much faster than the original 4200RPM disc!
7200 RPM 160GB Seagate in my dock, Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB in external enclosure.
Good health, Weogo

Re: HDD or SSD?
Voted 'both', but not installed in the same machine.
X60s with 160GB Caviar Black (7200rpm)
X301 with 64GB Samsung SSD (stock)
and for what it's worth, X32 with some 60GB 5400rpm drive and a 600E with ~9GB.

Re: HDD or SSD?
HDD for me, rather have a slower 80GB drive than a faster 40GB or 60GB drive!

Re: HDD or SSD?
SSD.
You simply can't beat a good SSD when it comes to power consumption, durability, and performance. The only reason to use an HDD nowadays is due to the price/GB for good SSDs -- and even that's rapidly falling.

Re: HDD or SSD?
SSD as primary, HDD as secondary on each Thinkpad.
My HP would be the same way, if it supported 2 drives....but I'm not shelling out another $400 for a 160GB SSD...so it's just a HDD.

Re: HDD or SSD?
I've got an SSD in the laptop I use that actually travels about.
Nothing to do with performance; it has one of those cheap Kingston V-Drive SSDs in it, which except for random reads isn't any better than a 7200rpm HDD... however, it often rides inside a bicycle pannier while travelling on a gravel road, and I wanted to make sure the data doesn't fall out along the way
