How to burn restore & recovery CDs from T42?

Hi folks,

I have a T42 with a failing HD and a new HD ready to go in. I want to build it the way it came from the factory but don't have the 7/8 CD set which you apparently need.

I have been told that I can burn them myself from the laptop (All Programs => Thinkvantage => Create Recovery Media) but there is no such option on my T42.

I had a look at my dad's (identical T42) and it's not on his either.

Both our T42s were from Asset management companies if that makes any difference, but they seemed to have all the IBM stuff installed as standard when new.

You get one opportunity to burn recovery disks, then the option is disabled (disappears from the menu). So likely they were burned when near new by PO. Maybe someone on this board has a set they will sell/copy for you. You can post a note in Marketplace.

I bought it "new" (refurb'ed) from a reputable place

Already posted a note in the classifieds.

Would searching for a download be questionable? I don't see why I shouldn't be "entitled" to a copy if my machine has a valid XP licence and should be able to write its own copies?
