New owner R40 tech questions

#1 Post by Gunbunny198 » Sat Feb 19, 2005 9:44 pm

Hello,

For starters, I'm a newbie and forgive me if I'm asking redundant questions, but I couldn't find the answers in the forum.

I have an R40 I just bought for a great price and I'm looking to beef it up a bit. First thing I am looking to do is upgrade the HD. My question is what is the largest HD I can put on this thing and what brand does everyone recommend. Do I have to buy the "IBM thinkpad" hard drives?

I am looking around for an Ultrabay 2000 HD adapter for a good price, so if anyone has an extra....

Also, I assume the max memory size is 1G. Am I right?

thanks to everyone...it's great to have this forum around!!

I think there is a 100 gig Seagate drive (5400 rpm) that is the biggest. As for 7200 rpm I believe that 60 gig is currently the biggest available (7k60).

Good luck.

Any 9.5mm drive should do the trick for you as long as you run the latest bios. as far as memory is concerned, yes 1024Mb is the physical limit available on that machine. Don't forget to add yourself some memory to at least 512MB.
