ThinkPad R61i - external VGA port problem

Hello

I've replaced my hard drive, and since then my VGA port stopped working. When i plug the monitor, Windows detects it, and download the right driver but i get no screen. (if i press prtscr and then paste it in mspaint, i get visual as 2 monitors were hooked up).
Actually it works only on 960x600 and 640x480 (bios resolution), but on all higher (i want 1680x1050) i get "no signal input" on my external monitor.

Graphic card is integrated (intel x3100). And i also plugged in old disk (where external monitor worked fine) and still didn't get screen.

The monitor is fully working, i have tried some other laptop and it worked all right. Also i tried another monitor and got the same results as on my main monitor.

Also my TP doesn't have docking/replicator port.

My warranty expired 1 month ago, so i'm stuck on my own

What is the exact TYPE/Model no., looks like TYPE 7650-44U on a sticker on the bottom.

These are the screen options:
14.1-inch XGA TFT (1024x768 resolution) TFT display
14.1-inch SXGA+ TFT (1400 x 1050 resolution) TFT display
14.1-inch WXGA (1280 x 800 resolution) TFT display
14.1-inch WXGA+ (1440 x 900 resolution) TFT display
15.0-inch XGA TFT (1024x768 resolution) TFT display
15.0-inch SXGA+ TFT (1400 x 1050 resolution) TFT display
15.4-inch WXGA TFT (1280 x 800 resolution) TFT display
15.4-inch WSXGA+ (1680x1050 resolution) TFT display

In the display settings, you can swap between Screen 1 and Screen 2, did you try that?

My TP is 7650-8BG

I did swap, same result.

I have configured when i close lid i get video out on external screen, but now i get just "no¸signal"

PS: Now i tried 1024x786 and it worked.... but ... higher won't still work:(

Maybe you too need a BIOS update?

I will look around about bios update and give back result

I'm using Windows 7. On old disk I had windows 7 and no problems with screen or resolutions. All I did is swap disks and install fresh windows 7. Today i also plugged in my old disk, to see if screen works (maybe driver problem!?) and still doesn't.

OK, i've upgreded bios, still no changes.

You can try updating graphic drivers.

Have you tried another monitor

Also to rule out OS, you could either reinstall Windows/Linux on fresh HDD (I can borrow you one if you don't have it). You can also try booting up latest Knoppix from DVD.

Yes i've tried another monitor, used ubuntu livecd. My guess is that motherboard is toasted.

But it's fine, x61s on my way home!
