T41p and limited resolutions on VGA-output.

#1 Post by Likvid » Sun Feb 20, 2005 11:08 am

I have a really frustrating problem i believe is related to the ATI FireGL T2 chip.

I have the T41p with 1400x1050 LCD screen and i am trying to define custom resolutions with Powerstrip to my plasma screen which is a native 1366x768 display.

I am also running the latest ATI Omega Drivers.

The problem is that Powerstrip got no problems adding the customized 1366x768 resolution and the ATI card seems to accept it into it's list of resolutions i can choose from.

The real problem is when i change to the 1366x768 resolution or any other customized resolution is that my Iiyama 22" CRT monitor i use for test purposes falls back to 1600x1200.

The only resolutions i have found that the ATI FireGL T2 card supports on it's VGA-output is:

1152x864
800x600
1024x768
1280x1024
1280x960
1600x1200

If i choose some resolutions between those above it falls back to the nearest one in the list above.

The funny thing is that Display Properties says i am running 1366x768 with no problems but my monitor menu says another thing.

Is this a common issue with the IBM Thinkpads with the ATI FireGL T2 card?

It's very frustrating that i can't use the Thinkpad for what i want it to do.

Is there any solution to this?

I think it's a monitor issue, not the computer--you can't make a monitor do a resolution it isn't designed to do.
