Accessing files on a previous hard drive...

#1 Post by Bg357 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 2:52 am

I recently restored my T42 with a new hard drive. I've been restoring data from the previous hard drive, via the 2nd HDD adapter.
I've done this numerous times over the years without any trouble. This time isn't going quite so well.
I've copied data from Program Files and from other areas of the root but I'm not able to get anything out of the documents & settings area of the drive. It shows all the subfolders but when I try to open them I get an error message saying the folder "is not accessible. Access is denied"

Any help would be appreciated.

You didn't state which operating system you have, I suspect it is Vista. Under that operating system, the documents and settings area is actually a shortcut over the the C:\Users\ folder.

You must "take ownership" of the My Documents folder, when this HD is in another machine.
