This seems like a pretty nice price, what do you think? I could sure use a new lappy, or should I wait till after the 25th?

Not sure what's after the 25th, but...

the IBM credit card sites and education sites have the 2378-FVU listed at $1,484.10.
1) cheaper than newegg
2) you get IBM's 30 day no questions asked return policy (good for dead pixels)

Newegg is a little cheaper in that IBM charges tax and shipping. When the T43 comes out prices on the T42 should drop I'd think. This is the perfect setup except I wish I could get the FireGL128; decisions, decisions.

get the T42. You won't be sorry, and you won't miss the FireGL128. This machine is a great value, although I WOULD pay a little extra for the 30 day return privilege.... also, IBM will refund the price difference within the 30 day period if it goes down...

I'd still say pay the extra. You'll also be able to upgrade the warranty should you choose to (Thinkpad protection) as you'll be the purchaser. Just makes things easier.

Besides, how much extra is IBM overall?
