A really, really stupid question.

#1 Post by IBMorBust » Sun Feb 20, 2005 7:53 pm

I know I could easily be perceived as a moron for even asking this, but I have several laptops, and somehow lost track of which AC cord (the section that plugs into the outlet and then into the brick) cam with my 3 week old T42. The one I think came with it says "Longwell" on it. I assume that's the brand name.

At any rate, I know it probably doesn't make a difference, because it's a universal part, but can others here let me know whether it says Longwell on theirs?

Thanks.

I should have thought to search "Longwell" before posting this question. Sorry.

My T41 cable says Longwell on it. I also use a spare Toshiba cable with it (I leave the cord in one of my client offices). So long as the cord is in good electrical condition, I don't think it makes any difference.

One area of concern: If you can sort them out, do so. Why? You may want to travel with the Laptop, and if you have a 100-240V adapter (most likely), you want a cord rated for 750V peak voltage (240V RMS x 3 = 700V or more peak to peak). It is possible that one of your cords is only rated for 120V.

I wonder if this is why xbox cords are out there burning people's houses down :)

Thanks JD.

It says 125V right on the cord, so I should be good, right?

Good locally. I know I have the cord that came with the adapter. It is a 100-240V adapter, and the cord says right on it: 300V (I'm sure they mean RMS voltage). I would *not* use a cord rated at 125V overseas as it would be a potential safety hazard. Basically, I don't think you have found the cord that came with your adapter. ... JD Hurst

Bring a travel-size surge protector (like the in-line model from APC) to protect against surges, especially if you are going to places with less stable power. (If you are heading for big cities like London or Hong Kong, you are safe.)
