humnn. .. "EXACTLY" might be a bit difficult to define here EXACTLY as there are lots of different ways the 'miltitouch' can be 'programmed' and or to behave e.g. there are lots of ways the Iphone/Ipod 'multitouch' works compared to what Lenovo's offerings - however there lots of common or similair things.

Maybe this is the good page for you to look at:

http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... blet_T400s

I have had a chance to play around with one for few weeks now and I am not a complete 'multitouch' convert as yet-as its of limited use for Business Applications.

As in two models the WHOLE DISPLAY SCREEN is Multitouch!! (X200 Tablet and T400s models-are "like iphone/ipod touch" - as most pple expect) Some models have just "touchpad" area only as "multitouch"

This page gives you a good idea of these differances :
http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... D=hpd00588&

However as a business user there things in newer T410/T510 - that really makes me happy are :

1) 16GB Bios STANDARD SUPPORT (and I can stop having to modify that myself!!)

2) i7 proc / V2 tech from intel and ability to load Xp and from intel downloads etc

3) eSata Port(s)

4) 16:9 Display for busines displays to HD format screen layout!

5) Always on USB Port - My Personal fav (as i dont have to really boot up windows to charge up my I/phone :P

Hope this helps

Looks like a new maxed out 510 will be a W700ds killer. I still saved a grand buying through the outlet though, so I'm fairly pleased. I also like having 3 drive bays. Something I've missed since updating from my A31. I would have loved the 700 to have an LED back light though, and was quite surprised to find it didn't. I can't imagine why it took them another year after everyone else. I'd like to check out that new multi touch screen. I might need to update my tablet!! If the touch is anything like the touch in the X6x, then I'll pass. I don't think you should have to press that hard. Is the sensitivity adjustable? If it's more like the iphone, then I might be convinced.

Wish they would make an IPS quality screen with LED backlight and multitouch. 12.1" 4x3 or 13.x" 16x10 would work nicely for a slate tablet. No keyboard needed, just type on the screen when needed. If you are writing documents, you go to the old standby or plug in a keyboard.

Hmmm.. thanks. I did order my fully loaded W510 today with the new dock. Hope it ships soon.

I got 8GB ram and bought a new 160GB Intel SSD for it (rather then getting one from Lenovo).

Not really sure if I'll use the multi touch but won't hurt having it.

Oh the model I got is the 4319-2RU with extra memory.

I wish they had a blue-ray disk burning option. :(

Congrats MR Mueller ,
Welcome to the TP world. From my experiance i havent had anyother BRAND of laptops all my life since the "XT" Proc days untill recently , I can tell you as far as BUSINESS USE, most of these laptops are(hav been bulit-poof so to speak!)

RE your order, I am not sure you would like this suggestion; as am not sure what you using this machine for - I WOULD NOT GET ANY EXTRA RAM!!

As there are number of places (I think even in Victoria!!) you can pickup DDR3 Ram lots and lots cheaper. I have had lots of people able to save 200-300$ on memory - not bad deal if can open one screen and insert couple of chip boards.

Installing 'aftermarket' memory also give you OPTION to buy "FASTER" speeds as the newer 'bus' speeds(1333mhtz) in W&T series are built on -Mostly for V2-3 technologies.
ie 8gb ram = 240$US extra @lenovo and am sure you get these cheaper and faster ones in few weeks lot cheaper. And as memory prices get cheaper and cheaper the longer you waite !!!

Good luck and Welcome to the new TOUCHSCREEN world - I just wish the software devlopers would hurry up and release stuff like WORD in 'iphone/ipod format'! but then I am a lazy typer , and often use DRAGON SPEAK !! - even for this as I type

Cheers

Hey people.. thanks.

I actually been using Think Pads since 1999. My current one is a T60p. can't wait for the new one.

Oh and thanks for the tips for the memory and warranty. I decided to wait for the laptop and then purchase those.

Aside from Windows Photo Gallery which seems to be the favorite for demonstrations, what applications work with multi-touch?

If an application doesn't specifically support multi-touch, can you get at least basic funtionality such as flick-scrolling (finger point dragging) in ANY application?

From MY EXPERIANCE ..............none ELSE! >but then I might have been 'dreamin of IPHONE like experiances  what a dream -NOT !!!

<-- Deeply Disspointed @Lenovo's Tech Support Staff;s LACK of even BASIC knowledge of their 'products' let along their FEATURES & FUNCTIONS (atleast in Melb Australia) .... one guy I talked to , felt like he was working AGAINST LENOVO!!! ....Ah well ,,,, :BAAAD!: >to boot- he was a Supervisor!:help:

Well ,, good thing we RETURNED/RMA those t400 & 400s .....LENOVO slipped major ways here to 'advertised features and functions... SAD but true !!

ah well ,, its off me chest now ,,,,, :x
