R51 unknown PCI-Device

#1 Post by tottiwagner » Mon Feb 21, 2005 6:34 am

Hello,

I just got my R51 (1830 Y4C). Really nice, it will not win a design price but I like it. (Compared to vehicles it is more a tank rather then a sport car :D )

Not all the bells and whistles known from other brands :D
A really slogger !!

However, I installed Windows 2000 on it. Everything works perfectly, only one PCI-Device is still unkown and I do not know what the hell it could be.
WLAN, PC-Card, IR, Modem, DVD-RAM, USB Network-Card, IEEE-1349, UltraNav and Graphiccard are installed already.

Therefore, what could be the unknown PCI-device. I assume there is some internal device which is not really relevant for the user. Such as system controller or bridges.
I checked all drives but no fits to the device.

Thanks for any kind of help

Torsten

Unknown device(s)...

I have had the same problem with installing older operating systems on newer machines, particularly the ThinkPad. Generally, XP is the benchmark of device recognition, so if you really need to be sure about your harware's integrity, try re-installing XP just for a test. Otherwise, if all of your harware is working, the unknown device is probably an artifact of the Plug & Play system. If you need additional info, please PM me.

How about USB? USB 2.0 requires Service Pack 4 (i think)...

If that is not it you could be missing something from IBM's site. Be sure to get the ACPI power management utils, the battery maximizer, etc..

Thanks to all answers and help.

I solved the problem. The Intel-Chipset wasn't installed correctly. After installing this, the unkown PCI-Device disappear.

No it's running smoothly under Linux (Suse 9.2) and Windows 2000.
:D
