any information on the batteries in T410/T510?

#1 Post by ghersh » Tue Jan 12, 2010 7:44 pm

Seems like Lenovo haven't updated the battery information on their site. Any information whether the batteries have been redesigned (so 9-cell battery no longer protruding from the back)?

TIA.

Thanks! I guess my choice will be 6-cell then. Hopefully with new energy-efficient features they should last longer than on 400/500.

The cell capacity seems to be higher. 9cell is 8.4Ah,11.1V=93.24Wh, compared to 84.24Wh for earlier models.

Also T410 and T510 now use the same batteries.

Any idea on whether the 9-cell has to be taken off or not for docking purposes?

This has never been the case before, and I seriously doubt they would introduce such a flawed design now.

The early model T510s come with 9 cell batteries (even thought the web site gives you a choice on T510 configs with either a 6 cell or 9 cell battery). The reason is that the 6 cell batteries have not become available to Lenovo yet. I was told by a Lenovo manager that the 9 cell battery _does protrude_ out the back of the machine, however not as much as previous models such as the T500.

Next up... Later in the production cycle, there will be a new hybrid battery. Consisting of a 9 cell made up of two modules. A conventional 6 cell that is flush with the back of the computer and a three cell which attaches to the bottom to form a 9 cell that will be of greater capacity than the current 9 cell batteries.

Upon learning of this, I promptly canceled my order for a T510 (with much reluctance, since I was advised they are pulling the T510 off the site due to demand outstripping their capacity). Furthermore I'm being told that it will be well in _excess of two months before T510's even reappear on the site, and at that point the shipping times will be approximately six weeks. Thanks Lenovo :(

I cannot stand a bulky protruding battery out of the back, as it interferes with the fit of the laptop in my case. Therefore I will wait for either the 6 cell batteries to become available or the hybrid 9 cell which ever comes out first.

In the meantime, it has occurred to me that as each passing day goes by Lenovo emulates Apple with it's supply and demand issues. The thought of having to wait nearly three months (possibly more) for a new ThinkPad is unacceptable.
