need help on finding missing HDD memory on XP

#1 Post by Georgeolivergo » Wed Jan 13, 2010 7:38 pm

I've been running some tools and looking on Google and this forum, but still haven't figured out what's going on; hopefully someone here can help.

The other day I noticed that my C:\ drive (the only HDD on my X41t/Windows XP laptop) said it had 8 GB available out of 50 GB total. I didn't think I was using 42 GB so I looked into it further.

Here's all the information on this disk:
DISKPART> list disk

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
-------- ---------- ------- ------- --- ---
Disk 0 Online 56 GB 0 B

DISKPART> select disk 0

Disk 0 is now the selected disk.

DISKPART> list partition

Partition ### Type Size Offset
------------- ---------------- ------- -------
Partition 1 Primary 52 GB 32 KB
Partition 2 OEM 4363 MB 52 GB

And more information on that disk:
Size 51.62 GB (55,428,677,632 bytes)
Free Space 12.20 GB (13,104,607,232 bytes)

Model HTC426060G9AT00
Partitions 2
Size 55.89 GB (60,011,642,880 bytes)
I went ahead and ran Disk Cleanup, CCleaner, and deleted all System Restore points but the last, and rebooted. Then, running FlexTk Express shows 19 GB used in C:\.

So the final result is I have 19 GB used in C:\ and 12 GB free, out of 50 GB total...where is the other 20 odd GB? My System Restore says it uses 6 GB, so I guess I may have only 14 GB missing....but where is that 14 GB?

I've run out of ideas of places to check. Any ideas?
